Caring

We value a culture of care that places our learners at the centre and promotes curricular decisions based on their best interests.

  • Consistently use a welcoming, engaging voice to directly address students
  • Make sure the course workload is reasonable (approximately 7 to 10 hours per week, use a workload calculator such as Wake Forest University’s Workload Estimator 2.0)
  • Divide material into manageable chunks
  • Create a space that is easy to navigate and visually engaging
  • Consider course materials and activities with an awareness of equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Work to decolonize content, activities, and assessments and incorporate Indigenous principles of education.
  • Consider the cost and availability of resources
  • Prioritize learner privacy, follow FOIPPA regulations
  • Be ethical when using student data for design purposes
  • Adopt an assessment approach that furthers student learning
